President Katsav Writes to President Clinton, Finally

Justice4JP Release - October 31, 2000

STATE OF ISRAEL
Office of The President

Jerusalem, 30th October, 2000

His Excellency
William Jefferson Clinton
President of the United States of America
The White House
Washington, DC

Dear President Clinton,

Israel is experiencing difficult times at present. I personally wish to thank you for your tireless efforts to further the peace process between us and the Palestinians, in particular, and between us and the Arab countries, in general. The State of Israel is indebted to you for your personal contribution towards promoting the process and I have no doubt that you will receive the recognition due to you. I hope that I will have an opportunity to convey our appreciation to you personally.

I know that the file of Jonathan Pollard has been on your desk for a long time for reviewal and that the past four Prime Ministers of Israel have personally requested that you bring about his release.

By virtue of my position, I wish to add my voice to the other Israeli leaders and ask that you commute Mr. Pollard's sentence to time served or use any other means that you consider appropriate, so that Mr. Pollard can join his wife and his family and be a productive member of society after serving 15 years in prison.

Yours sincerely,
(signed)
Moshe Katsav
