Pollard Ban Failed

May 1, 1997 - SNS News Service: Israel

Last night, after 10:00pm. the State Prosecutor, Edna Arbel, notified Supreme Court officials the ban prohibiting the publication of details pertaining to the Supreme Court appeal on behalf of convicted spy Jonathan Pollard, be canceled.

It appears the time factor was responsible but despite earlier attempts to stop publication of details pertaining to the Pollard affair earlier in the day, the major news services published the information before the ban took effect, rendering the ban useless.

Israeli officials feared the publication of sensitive details of the case might be harmful to state security.
