Dear Mr. President:

I write to express the sadness and disappointment of the Jewish community of Canada at your recent decision not to grant a pardon to Jonathan Pollard.

For some time now we have been urging your government, and indeed that of your predecessor, to show mercy. While we do not condone Mr. Pollard's actions, we earnestly believe that he now merits compassion. We respectfully urge you to re-consider your position in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

(signed)
Irving Abella
