Uzi Dayan: Condition Medal on Pollard Release

Justice4JP and The Committee to Bring Jonathan Pollard Home, as organizers of the petition (signed by 70,000 Israelis) in support of President Peres' appeal to President Obama have not asked President Peres to condition his acceptance of the US Medal of Freedom on the release of Jonathan Pollard. They have asked that he bring the full weight of his influence and honor in the US to bear in order to secure the release of Jonathan Pollard before or parallel with his receipt of this award.

Joining a growing chorus, IDF reserve general and former head of Israel's National Security Council, Uzi Dayan urged President Shimon Peres to condition his acceptance of the American Medal of Freedom on the release of Jonathan Pollard from prison. "Peres has many medals and honors, but Jonathan is still in prison, and we all must do whatever we can to free him." Speaking to Israel Radio, Dayan said that many American officials that he and others had spoken to on the matter were afraid to pursue it, while others who had attempted to move the issue of Pollard's release forward had met with a "stone wall" of refusal by officials opposed to the release of Pollard.
