Re: Jonathan Pollard

Dear Rabbi Lerner:

I received a call from our client Jonathan Pollard. He asked me to report the following to you.

MK's Ophir Pines-Paz, Chairman of the Knesset Law Committee, and Michael Eitan, a member of the Knesset Law Committee, wanted to bring a delegation to meet with my partner Eliot Lauer and myself for a comprehensive briefing on Jonathan's case, to be followed by meetings in Washington with members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees. MK Avram Burg approved the trip, including the funding for it. In accordance with Israeli procedure, the proposal was then presented to Prime Minister Sharon for final approval. Jonathan has learned that the Prime Minister vetoed it without explanation.

In a second incident, Cabinet Minister Danny Naveh sought permission to bring Harav Mordechai Eliyahu with him to Washington for discreet meetings with key government officials. Once again, Jonathan has learned that the Prime Minister forbade it.

Finally, there has been no confirmation that President Katsav, during his first formal visit to the White House, broached Jonathan's case with President Bush or with any other member of the Administration. It appears that President Katsav did not mention Jonathan at all.

As Jonathan's lawyers, we would like to speak with you at your earliest convenience to discuss how we might approach the situation in an effort to achieve a positive result. Our best.

Jacques Semmelman

Mrs. Esther Pollard
Eliot Lauer, Esq.
Larry Dub, Esq.
