Jlem Post Falsely Accuses Jonathan Pollard

Dear Editor:

RE: Sharon to Ask Bush to Pardon Pollard [Jlem Post, March 12, 2001]

In the above article, the Jerusalem Post falsely accuses my husband, Jonathan Pollard, of "... compromising key US intelligence services..." This is not true. There is no evidence to support such a charge, and no such charge has ever been made in a court of law. Indeed Jonathan was never charged with intent to harm the United States, as he surely would have been had there been any truth to what the Jerusalem Post alleges.

In an interview in The Washington Weekly ( 01/11/99) Angelo Codevilla, a senior American intelligence analyst, professional advisor to the original Senate select committee that dealt with the Pollard case at its inception, stated categorically that "Pollard did not have access to sources and methods", and that " in terms of satellite intelligence sources his impact was nonexistent". The full text of this interview is available on the web.

In disseminating false allegations against my husband, the Jerusalem Post is doing damage to an Israeli agent in jeopardy and at the same time doing a disservice to Israel and harm to the US - Israel special relationship. An immediate apology and retraction is in order.

Esther Pollard
(Mrs. Jonathan Pollard)
